Twins! Tell us about yourself. What do you do?
Unique Soundz started in 2009 as nothing more than a team of kids who loved music. Our journey into music began with making remixes of popular songs across various genres such as Indian, Chutney, Soca, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Pop, EDM, etc. By 2012 we decided to begin playing music live at private events such as Sweet 16’s and Birthday Parties. In 2014 we received our first official gig on May 22, 2014 for I Love Soca at Museum Bar (now Believe Music Hall) to early warm for Kerwin Dubois, Lyrikal, and 5 Star Akil.
How long have you been in you been in the DJ industry?
As of 2023 Unique Soundz is 13 years old. As of 2023 we have remained Atlanta’s Number One Soca Sound since 2015. We have been blessed to be able to bring artists such as Nessa Preppy, Erphaan Alves, Motto, Nailah Blackman, Sekon Sta, and Preedy to Atlanta first. Unique Soundz currently holds over 15 awards including Best Young Promotion Team, Atlanta’s Number One Spring Event, Juggle Fest Champions, and Silence In The City Champions.
What is the most important factor behind your success?
Even though the journey may seem short in writing, there were many years of hard work that led to our few accomplishments. Countless nights of organizing crates, listening and learning music, going to events and networking, making plans for events, creating mixtapes, and doing live streams are just a few of the things we did throughout the years. In other words, hard work, dedication, and determination is what allowed us to reach these milestones in our career. Another is being patient. You have to be fully aware that nothing can happen overnight. Then, when the goal is met, set a higher goal and go after it. There are always things to learn or perfect!
Behind the music, everyone knows us as the Twins. Alex and Brandon of Unique Soundz. We were born and raised in New York to Guyanese Parents. In 2005 we moved to Atlanta as kids with our parents after receiving better job opportunities. We fell in love with music at an early age growing up in New York and going to basement parties or family events. It’s just amazing how music can captivate you. The way it can comfort you no matter what is going on in life, or how happy and energized it could make you. We just knew we were destined to be around music.
Hard work, dedication, and patience. Nothing meant having will come easy which requires hard work.Staying focused on the goal ahead and never losing sight of the objective. Patience, because it may take years for your "time" to come.
Would you guys have any advice for the youths?
If you love what you do, be patient and stay focused. You never know when your "time" is. That moment can be in 10 minutes or 10 years. Stick to your goals and always keep motivated! Remember, you only live once (YOLO)!
