Meet Michael "Stemz" S’obrian | Artist / Producer

Michael S’obrian | Stemz Productions Studio | Age 39

Montreal, Canada

Stemz! Please tell us about yourself.

I’m an artist/producer and for as long as i could remember i've been surrounded by music. I've been in the music industry for quite some time now but was never really the type to make myself known or put myself out there. Don’t get me wrong though because I definitely know how to embrace the spotlight when necessary but I simply just prefer spending a majority of my time writing & producing music. Im a bit of a social introvert if that makes any sense lol. For anyone that knows about me and what i represent, i've always placed a huge emphasis on quality of work and everything that I set out to do is calculated with as much precision as possible. I have a strong work ethic when it comes to music and I never leave things to chance.

Great! What is the most important factor behind your success?

Success? Me? Well i can’t really say that i’m successful to the degree that i've always aspired to becoming, but I can definitely say that after creating the brand “Stemz” over six years ago, i've made some pretty decent strides in my own little way and turned a few heads in genres while i was at it. But to answer your question I think the main factor behind whatever success it is that i’m enjoying is simply in remaining humble in my pursuit & never losing sight of the goals I initially started off with. To be totally honest i don't see success the same way that a lot of other producers or artists probably see it. Success is and always will be a relative term and it carries with it a very specific definition to each and everyone.

What is your proudest professional achievement?

My proudest professional achievement so far has been a riddim that i produced last year alongside Anthony Chow Lin from Chinese Laundry entitled “The Scarborough Riddim”. The riddim was adopted as the official riddim for Tobago’s first ever carnival and two songs featuring Tobago born artist’s Shurwayne Winchester, Adana Roberts and Trinidadian born artist Joel “Zan” Feveck were officially licensed by Tobago and used for most of their promotion throughout the Tobago carnival season. If you guys haven’t heard it yet you should definitely go check it out as it features other top Soca artists such as Kernal Roberts, Sekon Sta & Chingee.

Amazing, what sets you apart from someone else in your industry?

I would definitely have to say that my style is unique to me and that iv’e always been able to produce multiple genres simultaneously without much groundwork beforehand. It’s honestly something that iv’e just always been able to do without giving it much thought, but as time goes on i continually try to be a better version of myself than i was yesterday.I also work like a mad scientist lol.

Special Shoutouts:

I’d like to acknowledge all of the young and upcoming producers and artists making waves on the North American front. Also a big shoutout goes to my Mom, Dad & brother Kevin who's always there by my side. My boys from Stemz productions Chingee, Jwalker, Ricky C, and my blood 4 life Nigel. Lastly I’d also like to shoutout my cousins who i grew up with Richard, Raymond and Rennie Ramnarine who have also always been instrumental in me experiencing my musical roots and learning what great music was while growing up alongside them throughout my younger years.

Is there anything you currently have in the works or any recent accomplishments you'd like to brief the audience about?

I actually have a lot of new material on the way in multiple genres with new as well as seasoned artists both internationally and from the Caribbean. I also plan on re-entering the music scene as “Showtime” which is my artist sobriquet and also releasing and giving my very own genre entitled “Suavay” a little debut this year if all goes according to plan.”Suavay” is a blend of East indian, Latin & African & Pop styled music with a strong Soca fused beats and rhythmic patterns, trust me when i say its very infectious.

We can't wait! At last, any advice for the readers?

Stay humble, keep your nose to the ground and keep working hard in whatever your passionate about in life because there is no greater gift. Oh and also don’t chase the money. Chase your dreams and the money will come.
